Nov. 16. 2016 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - With more than 20 organizations eagerly on the lookout for new talent, Slippery Rock University will host its second annual Social Sciences Career Expo from 12:30-2:30 p.m., Nov. 17, in the Smith Student Center.

The networking event targets students majoring in criminology, public health, special education, music therapy and therapeutic recreation. Participating employers will include: The Allegheny County Department of Human Services, the U.S. Peace Corps, Children and Youth Services, George Junior Republic and Glade Run Lutheran Services, among others. "More than 56,000 jobs have been posted in the U.S. in the past year for therapeutic support staff, case workers, social workers, mental health counselors and other commonly identified social science positions," said John Rindy, SRU director of career education and development. "This fair will bring many of those jobs right to students' front doors." According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median annual wage for social science occupations was $62,160 as of May 2015. Rindy suggests student attendees wear a pre-printed name badge to the event as "(those) are looked upon favorably by employers, and you always want to make a great first impression."

The event is business casual and walk-ins are welcome, but student attendees are encouraged to pre-register at www.sru/careerconnection.
